Tales From the Road Part Two
Well boys and girls, if you’re reading this it means I made it safely home from my road trip. If I remember correctly, we left off with my vehicle situation in Utah. From there, everything went very well.
I spent the weekend in Evanston as I started my visits with dealers in Wyoming. I met with some very nice dealer members, and they were glad that the association had hired someone for this position. A few of them remembered me from some of the annual conventions. That is one of the things I like most about this job is reconnecting with people and trying to find ways to help them. There is some scenery in Wyoming that makes you feel like you are still in Nevada. But as I was driving through it I kept saying to myself, “It’s not Utah! It’s not Utah! It’s not Utah!”
From there I went into Colorado. I was surprised to see how much cattle range there is in Colorado. As I was driving to see a dealer in Yuma, I looked over to see a cowboy opening a gate in the corral from his horse. I had a flashback to the Wilker Ranch and my horse Slim. He was one of the best at putting you in the right position to open the gate, so you didn’t have to get off your horse. You might call it lazy; I call it smart. Or Management 101.
The trip was very successful, and I have been able to gather some valuable research for our Workforce Development program. I enjoyed meeting with some great dealers and the chance to see some country I have never seen before.
The main thought that occurred to me as I was driving, was how fortunate we are to have the American Farmer. While there are some sections of our country that are divided and arguing over things like masks and vaccinations, the American Farmer is still working hard every day to feed the world. If you get a chance, you should listen to Paul Harvey’s “So God Made a Farmer.” It is a great and accurate tribute to this amazing group of men, women, and children.
I want to thank all the American Farmers for their hard work and dedication. You are one of the main reasons we are the greatest country in the world. Thanks for reading.
Next week: Good to be home
P.S. Do you think the car trouble I had in Utah is because I make fun of Utah drivers so much? Yeah, I didn’t think so either.
