Happy Memorial Day 2022
I would like to begin with sending my deepest condolences and prayers to the community and the families in Uvalde Texas that suffered the brutal and senseless act of violence and murder this week. I cannot begin to comprehend the heartbreak and loss they are going through. It is difficult to understand why someone could do something so horrible. It is getting troublesome to witness how much evil there is in the world right now. Please keep this community in your thoughts and prayers.
I would like to acknowledge the brave men and women in our armed forces for their commitment and sacrifice. They have given much so we can enjoy the freedoms we have. I want to thank them and let them know how grateful I am.
I especially want to thank my Dad for his service to our country. For those of you who didn’t know Max Wilker, he was in WWII and was a prisoner of war for 3 ½ years. He worked on what was called the death railway in the Burmese jungle and lived on a bowl of rice a day. When he got out of the service, he weighed 98 pounds. His ordeal always inspired me to keep my perspective on the work I had to do on the ranch. I am grateful for the service he gave for his country, and for the example he set for us kids. He taught us that everything worthwhile comes through arduous work and determination.
I want to acknowledge all my family members who have left this life for the next chapter in theirs. The friendship and strength you showed all of us while you were here helps me every day. I know you are all fulfilling a higher calling. It is such a comfort for the blessing of that knowledge.
Memorial Day this year will be special to me. As I reflect on the topics I just discussed, it reminds me just how short this chapter of our life is. It prompts me to focus more on all the positive things I have over the negative. I will use that to help me recognize all the wonderful people I have in my life. It will guide me to appreciate them and not take them for granted. I am so grateful to all of you for the comfort and support you give me. I am thankful for my wonderful and amazing family that give me so much strength and love.
I hope everyone has an amazing weekend and you make some special memories with family and friends. Thanks for reading.
