New Job Description
I am enjoying my job as a dealer development consultant. It has given me an opportunity to meet with a lot of equipment dealers and work with them on solving some of the issues they are dealing with. It has also allowed me the opportunity to make some great contacts that can be very beneficial to my company.
One of the challenges I was given was recruiting new businesses to become members. As I was traveling around the six states and stopping into to our member dealers to introduce myself, I also stopped at several non-member dealers as well. I developed a plan to set up some regional meetings and invite both member and non-member dealers. I presented it to the board, but they decided it would have been too expensive to implement. I have been doing everything I can to recruit new dealers, but without spending a lot of money on travel and regional meetings, we will not be able to sign very many new dealers up.
My boss told me last week they have hired a new person to take over membership and marketing. They will assume the responsibilities for membership recruitment, and she wants me to start writing weekly articles about the industry and post them to our online magazine. The concept is the better articles we write, the more we can attract dealers to the website, and the more advertising we can generate.
She explained to me that regardless of the topic I am writing about, it is always helpful to use quotes whenever possible. I told her that I want to use our members for quotes as much as possible. That would incentivize them to read the magazine, and it would also give me an excuse to contact them. She told me that was a great idea. What can I say, every once in a while I am capable of a good idea!
I thought this new task would be perfect for me as I already write and post a story weekly anyway. I quickly found out that posting a personal story is quite different than post one with content for advertising purposes. I had to do a little research for this type of article, and I have some good resources now for my work articles. I am looking forward to this new opportunity and a chance to get my name out to other businesses and industries. Needless to say, I’ll probably have to leave out my little P.S. lines at the end of these articles.
The best part of this is that I can do the majority of my job from my house, and I won’t need to travel as much. This is great news for me, and for Kristi. That is as long as I don’t drive her crazy in the meantime. I hope you all have a great week. Thanks for reading.
Next week: Toastmaster Speech Contest
P.S. Just because I can’t write these in my work articles, doesn’t mean you won’t still have to read them. You didn’t think you’d get off that easy did you?
