Happy Birthday to Me!
Well, I finally made it to Medicare! I recall this being the pinnacle of reaching old age. Of course, now I have a completely different perspective. I may have turned 65 but thanks to our society today, I self-identify as 25. (Mentally I will always self-identify as 5)
As I look back at my 65 years on this planet, I recognize just how fast the time goes. I have realized there are so many people that have always been there for me and there are so many things I have taken for granted.
I need to thank my Mom and Dad for everything they taught me and for all the love they gave me. There were times I felt they were being so unfair and how terrible my life was. I think we can all admit we have felt that way about our parents at times. That perspective seems to change when we become parents and we are the unreasonable ones. Seriously though, I look back at everything they went through in their life and the sacrifices they made for us. There are not enough words to let them know how grateful I am. I will always appreciate the hard work ethic they instilled in me.
I want to thank my family and my friends for all the encouragement and assistance they have given me. They have been there for me in the low times, and they have been there with me to celebrate the good times. Even the times when I felt all alone, I realize they were always there to give me love and support unconditionally. I want all of you to know how grateful I am for that and I promise you it is something I will never take for granted again.
I have always had faith in our Heavenly Father and the plan of salvation. I will admit however this is probably the biggest thing I have taken for granted. I understood the concept of right and wrong and I really felt I tried to be a good person as much as I could. It wasn’t until I grasped the importance of service to others that I began to truly comprehend the importance of our Heavenly father’s work. I think about the examples of so many amazing people like my Mom and my Mother-In-Law Berna Deanne. I also think about the two amazing women that I have been blessed to have in my life. Shannon and Kristi are two of the most unselfish people that always put other’s needs before theirs. They make me want to be a better person and they man they can be proud of. Kristi, thank you for everything you did to make my birthday so special. It was much more than I deserve, but I’m okay with that. I Love You!
I want to thank all of you for all the support you have given this old man. Thanks for reading.
Next week: The Birthday Party Continues
P.S. It seems like yesterday I was so immature and foolish. Wait, that was yesterday.
